Musical theatre

Musical theatre is where it all comes together. Students develop as true triple threats (singing, acting and movement) while learning how to carry a character through a whole show or performance. It’s our most complete performer’s program, and for many students it’s the heart of their time at CBY.

Classes blend vocal work, scene and character study, and staging, building the stamina, teamwork and stagecraft that live productions demand. Whether your child dreams of the lead or simply loves being part of something bigger, they’ll grow enormously and have the time of their life doing it!

The CBY Showstoppers is our flagship program, with three age divisions: The Junior Showstopper (for grades 1-4), The Intermediate Showstoppers (for grades 5-8) and The Senior Showstoppers (for grades 9-12). Students rehearse between September and June each year and work towards staging two full scale musical productions: a panto in December and a youth Broadway musical in June. Commitment required: October-December and January-June.

The CBY Rising Stars is our recreational theatre program for ages 6-10. A relaxed, month-to-month program for kids curious about musical theatre and want to try it out without any pressure or required commitment. Build confidence, learn stage skills, and perform in smaller settings. This program is often a stepping stone into Showstoppers the following year. Students work towards performing a small number in our Winter Concert in December and our End of Year Concert in June.

The CBY Musical Theatre Minis is our playful, foundational program introducing our youngest performers aged 4-6 to the world of musical theatre. Build confidence, creativity, and stage skills in a fun, supportive setting that leads naturally to Rising Stars or Showstoppers when ready. Students will also work towards performing a small number in our Winter Concert in December and our End of Year Concert in June.
