Drums

Drumming is pure energy, and it’s brilliant for developing coordination, timing and focus. Students start with fundamentals like grip, posture, basic beats and reading rhythm. Then, they quickly progress to playing along with real songs, which is where the magic happens.

Along the way they build independence between hands and feet, a steady internal clock, and the confidence to drive a whole band. Lessons are tailored to each student’s age and taste, from first-timers finding their groove to keen players expanding into fills, styles and technique.

Drum students at CBY have a range of opportunities throughout the school year.

Exams

We offer the RSL (Rockschool Ltd) curriculum for our drum exams, so students can work toward a recognised qualification in contemporary performance, covering a variety of genres including rock, pop and jazz.

🎓 98% of our exam-track students earn a First Class with Honours (80% or higher).

🏅 Several CBY students have won the Conservatory Canada “Medal of Excellence,” awarded for the highest exam grades in Ontario at their level.

Concerts

Every CBY student is invited to perform for family and friends at our two biggest events of the year, the Winter Concert in December and the End of Year Concert in June. It’s a chance to showcase what they’ve learned and celebrate together.
