Overview

What they’ll learn

The piano is the clearest window into how music works, which is why it’s such a powerful first instrument. Students learn to read music, understand rhythm and harmony, and play with both hands, building skills that carry into every other instrument they might ever pick up.

Lessons meet each child where they are: little ones start with playful games and simple melodies, while older and more advanced students tackle richer repertoire, theory and technique. The pace is always the student’s own, and the goal is always the same: real understanding, real enjoyment, and the quiet pride of mastering a piece they once thought was too hard.

Performances & opportunities

Piano students at CBY have a range of opportunities throughout the school year.

Exams

We offer the exam curricula of Conservatory Canada, RCM and RSL, so students can work toward a recognised qualification in the style that suits them. Conservatory Canada and RSL are our contemporary streams, ideal for piano students who love pop, rock, soul, jazz and more, while the RCM is our classical curriculum.

🎓 98% of our exam-track students earn a First Class with Honours (80% or higher).

🏅 Several CBY students have won the Conservatory Canada “Medal of Excellence,” awarded for the highest exam grades in Ontario at their level.

Concerts

Every CBY student is invited to perform for family and friends at our two biggest events of the year, the Winter Concert in December and the End of Year Concert in June. It’s a chance to showcase what they’ve learned and celebrate together.
